Elmcot
Elmcot is in Keswick, about a five minute walk from the town centre. It's detached, so no neighbours attached to the walls. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you've got a dog or kids. You can park two cars on the drive.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both doubles, and each one has its own bathroom. That's handy if two couples are sharing, or if you've got teenagers. It's a 4 Star place, which means it's well looked after. It's comfortable, not just a basic holiday let. There's WiFi.
The walk into Keswick is level, which isn't always the case round here. Plenty of pubs and shops when you get there. You can be on a path out of town in no time.
Derwentwater is about a fifteen minute walk. You can get the launch from there. The Theatre by the Lake is worth a look if the weather turns. For a bigger day out, you're right in the middle of the Northern Fells. Blencathra and Skiddaw are right there. Helvellyn is about a half hour drive.
It's a good base if you don't want to be right in the bustle but still want to be able to pop out for a pint or a paper. We allow one well-behaved dog. There's a dishwasher, washing machine, cot and highchair if you need them. All the bedding and towels are included.
