Rowan House

Rowan House is in Threlkeld. It's an end-of-terrace cottage and we live right next door, so we're around if you need anything. It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. There are two double rooms and one with twin beds. One of the doubles has an en-suite shower, and there's another main bathroom. The rating is 4 Star, which I think reflects that it's comfortable and well-equipped.

The living room has a wood burner. We leave a basket of logs for you to get started. The dining room is separate, which is handy if some people want to watch TV while others are still at the table. The kitchen is new, and through there's a utility room with a washing machine. The back door leads to a patio with a table and chairs. It gets the sun in the afternoon. There's private parking right there too.

There are two pubs in the village. Both are a minute's walk and serve good food. The shop is in Keswick, about a five minute drive away.

Keswick itself is about five miles. It's a proper Lakeland town with plenty of shops, places to eat, and a supermarket. If you want to walk from the door, you're at the foot of Blencathra. You can join the Keswick Railway Path straight from the village, which is an easy, flat walk all the way into Keswick along the old train line.

For days out, Castlerigg Stone Circle is just outside Keswick and worth a look. The Theatre by the Lake is there too. Further afield, Grasmere, Ullswater, and Derwentwater are all within a half hour drive. For walkers or wet weather, the National Trust has good information on the local area. The official Lake District National Park site is also useful for planning.

What's included: all the bedding and towels, WiFi, a cot and highchair if needed. There's a dishwasher and the washing machine. Sorry, we don't take pets.
