Brackendale Cottage

Brackendale Cottage is on a working beef and sheep farm in Scales, up towards Blencathra. It's a stone terraced cottage, one of six holiday lets here on the farm.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. The rating is 3 Star, which means it's comfortable and has everything you need, but it's not luxury.

The downstairs is all open plan, kitchen and living area together. It's a good space if you've got kids, everyone's in the same room. The stairs up are standard cottage stairs, so they're a bit steep.

Outside, there's a private patio with garden furniture opposite the front door. It gets the sun most of the day. The view from the back looks up Blencathra.

You're just off the main road between Penrith and Keswick. The local pub is about three quarters of a mile away. Threlkeld village is a bit further, about a mile and a quarter, and has a couple of good restaurants. Keswick is five miles down the road. You've got all the shops and pubs there, and Derwentwater for hiring boats.

For walking, you've got direct access onto Blencathra from the farm. It's a proper climb. Latrigg and Catbells are also easy to get to from Keswick.

If you want organised places to visit, Keswick has the Theatre by the Lake. You can drive to the Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite, which is about ten miles away.

Facilities: bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking right outside. It's a working farm, so you'll see sheep. No pets allowed sorry.
