Garden Cottage

Garden Cottage is in Threlkeld. It's an old house, from the 1700s. It backs right onto Blencathra. You can see the fell from the windows.

It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean. The floors downstairs are the original stone, which is lovely but can be cold underfoot. The stairs are steep, as they are in old cottages.

The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing a dog. You can sit out there and just look at the mountain.

The local pub is about a five minute walk. They do good food. Threlkeld itself has a coffee shop and a village hall. For a proper supermarket, you'll need to drive to Keswick, which is about ten minutes away.

You can walk straight from the door. There's a path along the old railway line that's good for a flat stroll. If you want to climb Blencathra, that starts here too. For a less demanding walk, Latrigg is nearby and has good views over Keswick.

Keswick has the usual Lake District town things: boat trips on Derwentwater, shops, cafes. The Pencil Museum is there if the weather turns. A bit further afield, you're close to the A66 so you can get to Penrith or the northern parts of Hadrian's Wall in under half an hour.

Inside, there's a wood burner in the living room. The kitchen has everything you'd need. There's a utility room by the back door, which is handy for boots and wet coats. We include bedding and towels. There's parking for one car on the drive.

You can bring one well-behaved dog. Please keep it off the furniture.
