11 The Plosh

This is number 11 The Plosh in Keswick. It's a listed terrace cottage, very old, about 250 years I think. It's a two minute walk to the market square and about the same to Derwentwater. You've got pubs, restaurants, the theatre and the cinema all right there.

It sleeps four. I have to be clear about the layout, because it's unusual. There's one main bedroom with a double bed on the first floor. The other two single beds are up in a gallery area off the living room. You get to them by some very steep, narrow paddle steps. It's fine for nimble adults or older kids, but you need to be careful. The stairs in general are cottage stairs, so they're steeper than modern ones.

The living room is on the first floor. It's got a gas wood burner that looks real, and the original floorboards. The kitchen and bathroom are on the ground floor. The bathroom has a roll-top bath with a shower over it.

You get a small patio garden out the back. One well-behaved dog is allowed. There's a washing machine, WiFi, and all the bedding and towels are included.

You're right in the town, so you don't need the car for most things. For walking, you can pick up trails from the town or drive a short way. Catbells is a classic, maybe a ten minute drive to the start. The Lake District National Park site has all the route details. For a wet day, the National Trust properties like Wordworth House in Cockermouth are about half an hour away.

It's a 3 Star place. That means it's clean, warm and comfortable, but it's an old building with character, not a new build. The location is the main thing.
