This is Joan's Cottage. It's near Thornthwaite, on the edge of Whinlatter Forest. A proper detached place, not shared with anyone.
It sleeps seven in three bedrooms. Two bathrooms, one with a bath and shower, the other just a shower downstairs. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well equipped.
The setting is the main thing. It's right by a beck, so you can hear the water. The views of Skiddaw from the garden are great. The garden itself has slopes and some low walls, so you just need to keep an eye on kids or anyone unsteady.
Inside, there's two living rooms. One with the TV and dining table, the other is quieter. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking, and wifi.
You're in a hamlet called Seldom Seen, which is a couple of miles above Thornthwaite village. It's very quiet. Keswick is about ten minutes' drive for shops and pubs. Bassenthwaite Lake is close. Cockermouth is about twenty minutes away.
For walking, you're right on the edge of Whinlatter Forest Park. The mountain bike trails start from the visitor centre there. Keswick is the usual base for Catbells and the Borrowdale valley. The better-known bit of the Lake District, like Ambleside and Windermere, is about a forty minute drive.
