Corner House

Corner House is our cottage in High Lorton. It's a detached place, about two hundred years old, so it's on the listed building register. That means some things are a bit old fashioned, but you get the character.

It sleeps five. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. One of the bathrooms is an en-suite. There's a proper wood burner in the main sitting room and another smaller one in the dining area, in a big inglenook fireplace. We keep the coal bunker outside topped up for you.

The kitchen is a galley style, so it's long and narrow. It has what you need. There's a separate utility room with the washing machine. Downstairs there's also a small single bedroom, or you could use it as a quiet room to sit.

Outside, there's a bench by the front door. You get one dedicated parking space right by the house, which is a relief in the village. The village shop is excellent, honestly, and it's just up the road. The pub is about half a mile's walk. There's a little green and a stream even closer.

Cockermouth is three miles away for bigger shops and a market. Keswick is about eight miles, good for cafés and outdoor gear. You're right in the North Lakes. Whinlatter Forest is on your doorstep for walking or cycling. The Forestry England page for Whinlatter has maps and details. If you want to go further, Buttermere and Crummock Water are a short drive.

Facilities: WiFi, bedding included, washing machine, the parking space. The rating is 3 Star, which fits. It's comfortable and solid, not luxury. We take up to two dogs.

For planning days out, the Lake District National Park site is the best place to start.
