Watches is a lodge on a working beef and sheep farm near Bassenthwaite. It's detached, so there's no one next to you. You've got your own parking space and a deck out the front.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. One bedroom has a kingsize bed and its own shower room. The other is a twin room. There's a separate family bathroom with a good sized shower. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's well kitted out.
The main room is open plan. You've got the sofa and dining table and kitchen all in one space. It feels quite big. The windows let you see the fells, Skiddaw mostly. That's the big one out the back.
You're about a mile from Bassenthwaite Lake. The village of Bassenthwaite is a bit further, maybe a mile and a quarter. There's a pub there that does food. The farm itself is peaceful, but you'll hear and see the animals. That's just how it is.
For walking, you're right in it. You can head up Skiddaw if you want a proper climb, or Catbells and Blencathra are nearby too. Less demanding walks are all around the lake and the lower paths. Keswick is about seven miles away for shops and cafes. Derwentwater is there.
A few other things nearby: the Lakes Distillery does tours if you like whisky or gin. The Lake District Wildlife Park is a couple of miles away for kids. Cockermouth is eight miles.
For facilities, it's got what you'd expect. Washing machine, dishwasher, cot and highchair if you need them. All the bedding and towels are included. There's bike storage. No pets, I'm afraid.
If you're planning walks or days out, these sites are useful: Lake District National Park and National Trust Lake District.
