Overwater Lodge

Overwater Lodge is a semi-detached cottage, one of two that were built for the hall. It's in Orthwaite, which is quiet. It's about three miles from Bassenthwaite Lake.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. The main thing is the view. You can see Skiddaw from most of the rooms. The garden is south facing and quite large. There's some woodland attached to it as well.

Overwater tarn is a couple of minutes' walk away. The Reiver cycleway goes past the cottage, and there are bridleways leading up onto Binsey Fell and Skiddaw. It's good for walking and cycling from the door.

There's a pub, the Sun Inn, in Bassenthwaite village about half an hour's walk. The Snooty Fox in Uldale does food and there's a tearoom there too. Overwater Hall Hotel, which is a two minute walk, has a restaurant.

You get red squirrels and deer in the garden sometimes. It's very quiet.

Within about half an hour's drive you've got Bassenthwaite Lake for sailing, the Lake District Wildlife Park, Mirehouse historic gardens, and an osprey viewpoint. Whinlatter Forest is good for walking and cycling trails. The Lakes Distillery is five minutes away by car, they do tours.

Facilities: there's a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and a cot. Parking is on site. The garden is yours to use. No pets, sorry.
