Overwater Lodge

Overwater Lodge is in Orthwaite, Cumbria. It's about a hundred years old and was built for the hall nearby. It's semi-detached, one of a pair. The big thing is the view. You can see Skiddaw from most of the windows. The garden is south facing and catches the sun, and there's a bit of woodland next to it.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. There's a proper woodburning stove for the cooler evenings.

You're about three miles from Bassenthwaite Lake. Out the back, there are bridleways that lead straight up onto Binsey Fell and towards Skiddaw. The Cumbrian Way and the Reiver cycle route are right there. Overwater Tarn is a two-minute walk.

The Overwater Hall Hotel is also a two-minute walk. They've got a restaurant. For a pub, The Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite village is about half an hour on foot, or a short drive. Uldale has The Snooty Fox pub and a tea room.

You'll see a lot of birds. Red squirrels come by sometimes. Deer too.

Within about half an hour's drive you've got plenty. Sailing on Bassenthwaite Lake, the Lakes Distillery for tours, and the Lake District Wildlife Park. Whinlatter Forest has walking trails and Go Ape. Mirehouse is a nice historic house with gardens. If you want a spa treatment, Armathwaite Hall Hotel isn't far.

At the cottage itself, there's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and bike storage. There's a cot if you need it. All bedding is included. There's parking on site. No pets, sorry.
