The Tottsie
This is our place in Bassenthwaite, The Tottsie. It's one of five old cottages in a row, built in the 1600s. We think it's got a good feel to it.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one on each floor, which is handy. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean but don't expect anything too luxurious.
Downstairs is open plan, living room and dining area. We had it refurbished a few years ago. There's a wood burner. The kitchen is through an archway, it's fine for cooking holiday meals. The main bathroom is down there too.
Upstairs are the two bedrooms. The thing about them is the view. You look out over the back garden and the fields, straight across to Bassenthwaite Lake and the fells. You can see Skiddaw. It's a proper Lake District view. The stairs are the original cottage stairs, so they're a bit steep and narrow.
You get your own garden. It's at the end of the row, so it's private. It's lawned with a patio and some furniture. Because there aren't many buildings around, it gets the sun and you can see the fells from there. The woods right behind us have red squirrels.
There's a pub about a mile and three quarters away that does food. The Lakes Distillery is close by if you fancy a tour. Keswick is about eight miles, that's where you'll find most of the shops and cafes. Cockermouth is a bit closer, maybe seven or eight miles.
For things to do, the Lake District National Park site has all the walking routes: Lake District National Park. The National Trust looks after a lot of the land and houses around here: National Trust Lake District.
What's included: all the bedding and towels, WiFi, a washing machine, dishwasher, and TV. There's parking right outside. We accept up to two dogs.
