This is Brook House 2, in Bassenthwaite. It’s one half of an old farmhouse, right in the middle of the village. You’ve got your own bit of patio out the back, gated and paved.
It sleeps five. Two bedrooms but three bathrooms, which is handy. There’s a wet room on the ground floor. It’s got a 4 Star rating. The place is spacious. Big living room with a woodburner and three sofas.
Important thing to know: although there are ground floor facilities, the fire exits mean it’s only suitable for fully mobile guests. Not for anyone needing walking assistance.
The setting is quiet. It’s next to a stream. There are ducks. There’s a little wooded bit with swings just along from the cottage, good for kids. The village pub is about 200 yards away. They do food.
For a proper shop, you need to drive to Keswick or Cockermouth, each about 15 minutes away. Keswick has Derwentwater and all the outdoor shops. Cockermouth is more of a local town, with good independent places. Supermarkets deliver.
You can walk straight from the door. It’s about two miles down to Bassenthwaite Lake itself. For a bigger walk, Skiddaw is right there. For a drive, the other lakes like Buttermere or Ullswater are about half an hour away.
Close by, there’s Mirehouse with its grounds, Dodd Wood with a café at the top, and St Bega’s church by the lake. A bit towards Cockermouth there’s the Lakes Distillery and the Wildlife Park.
The facilities are all there: WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher, parking. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. We’ve got a cot and highchair if you need them.
