The Retreat
The Retreat is in Sunderland, Cumbria. Not the city, the village. It’s a semi-detached stone cottage from the 1700s, which is what the date over the door is for. It’s on a quiet lane.
It sleeps six, in three bedrooms with two bathrooms. One bathroom is a shower room downstairs. It’s got a 4 Star rating. The layout is a bit quirky because it’s old. Some doorways are low. The living room is split into two separate sitting areas, one with a wood burner.
The garden is large, with trees and flowers. You can see Skiddaw from the door. There’s parking for three cars.
You can walk from the door up towards Blindcrake. The views over Bassenthwaite Lake are good from up there. Cockermouth is the closest proper town, about two miles. It’s got good pubs and shops. The main roads are nearby, so getting around is straightforward.
Keswick is about a 20-minute drive. The Solway Coast is about ten miles west. Whinlatter Forest is good for cycling, and it’s not far.
Facilities: there’s a wood burner, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a highchair. No pets.
