Grooms Cottage
Grooms Cottage is in Arkleby, in Cumbria. It's on the edge of the Lake District National Park, but it's a quiet, rural spot. The cottage sleeps four, with two bedrooms and one bathroom.
It's part of a conversion alongside The Coach House. We live next door at Holly Lodge. You get your own private patio area, but the larger gardens are shared. They're big, with lawns and an orchard. It's very private. There's plenty of parking.
The cottage itself has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and has character. The living space is open plan and upstairs, which gives you a good view out over the Solway Firth. The sunsets from there can be really good.
Facilities: there's a woodburning stove, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog.
The village of Aspatria is two miles away for basic shops. Cockermouth is about eight miles. That's where you'll find most things: proper shops, cafes, pubs, and a swimming pool. There's also a leisure centre with a pool, jacuzzi, and steam room about half a mile from here if you want that.
You're about a 15 minute drive from the coast and the edge of the Lakes proper. Keswick, the fells, and the beach at Allonby are all within easy reach. There's a golf course locally, and fishing is available nearby on the River Ellen or at Gilcrux.
