This is Greengill Farm Shepherds Hut. It’s on our working farm near Gilcrux, in the north western bit of the Lake District.
It sleeps two. One room with a double bed, and a separate shower room. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It's really just one open space, with a small kitchen area and a wood burner. It’s tidy and cosy, but it is a shepherd's hut, so the space is compact. You’ve got your own patio outside with a table and chairs, and a barbecue.
The farm is quiet and you’re welcome to walk around the edges of the fields. It’s a proper working farm though, so there will be machinery and livestock about. Gilcrux village is about a mile down the lane. There’s a pub and a bistro there.
For a bigger shop or more places to eat, Cockermouth is about a 20-minute drive. Keswick is about the same. The coast at Allonby is roughly 5 miles away if you fancy a beach. The northern and western Lakes are easy from here. Lake District National Park has all the walking routes.
Facilities: There’s a TV, the bedding and towels are included, and there’s parking right next to the hut. There’s a cot available if you need one. No pets, sorry. The hut is one of two places here, so sometimes the other cottage is booked too.
