This is Rebecca Puddle Duck Cottage in Bassenthwaite. It's part of the old farmyard here, next to my house and a couple of other cottages. You get parking for one car right next to it.
It sleeps two, with one bedroom downstairs and the living room, kitchen and bathroom upstairs. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean but not luxurious. The beams upstairs are quite chunky and low, so if you're tall you'll need to duck your head a bit when you go into the living area. You can see Skiddaw from the upstairs window and from the bedroom.
The village is quiet. There's a pub about 200 yards away that does food. The nearest proper shops are in Keswick or Cockermouth, about a 15 minute drive. Sometimes the chickens wander through the yard, and there are ducks on the stream. You can feed the chickens if you like.
You're right in the Lake District National Park. Bassenthwaite Lake is two miles away. Derwentwater and Keswick are about 15 minutes by car. From here you can get to lots of other lakes like Buttermere and Ullswater in under 40 minutes.
There are good walks straight from the door, or you can drive a short way to places like Dodd Wood or Dash Falls. If you want a day out, the Lakes Distillery is nearby, and so is the Lake District Wildlife Park. Mirehouse is a nice stately home to visit.
For further trips, Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall are within an hour's drive.
Facilities: everything's included, like bedding, towels, electricity. There's a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. We can provide a cot and a highchair. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
