Fairholme
Fairholme is our place in Thornthwaite. It's near Keswick but up in Whinlatter Forest, in a spot called Seldom Seen. It used to be a water mill, part of a terrace. The stream, Comb Beck, runs right past the bottom of the garden.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well looked after. It's quiet. You'll hear the water and the birds more than anything else.
The local pub and a shop are a mile and a half away in Braithwaite. They're fine. There's also a gallery and a tea room about a hundred yards up the lane if you fancied a scone.
Keswick is under four miles down the hill. It's got all the supermarkets, cafes, and outdoor shops you'd expect. The lake's there too, obviously.
Whinlatter Forest Park is right on the doorstep. The visitor centre is up the road. They've got mountain bike trails, walking routes, a play area for kids, and sometimes you can see ospreys. If you're walking from the door, you're straight onto forest paths.
Inside, there's a washing machine, a TV, and WiFi. The heating and electricity are included. Bedding is provided, and we've got a cot and highchair if needed. There's parking right outside. No pets, I'm afraid.
