Bracken Howe is in Portinscale, just beside Derwentwater. It's a semi-detached house, sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well kitted out and comfortable.
The main thing is the view. You look out across the valley to Grisedale Pike and the Skiddaw range. You can see Bassenthwaite Lake from some windows. It's a proper elevated spot.
It was recently done up. Good quality furniture, everything works. There's a wood burner in the living room. The garden is enclosed, good if you've got kids.
Portinscale itself is quiet. There's a pub, a restaurant, and a couple of tea rooms. You can walk into Keswick in about twenty minutes. Keswick has all the shops, cafes, and a cinema.
For getting outside, you're right there. You can walk up Catbells from the village. Whinlatter Forest is a short drive for mountain biking trails. Derwentwater is on your doorstep for sailing or hiring a rowing boat. The more adventurous go paddleboarding or wild swimming.
The osprey viewpoint at Dodd Wood is about three miles away. Good walk, and there's a tearoom. Bassenthwaite Lake is also close by.
In the house, you've got WiFi, a washing machine, parking for two cars, and a cot if you need it. No pets, I'm afraid.
