Bracken Howe

Bracken Howe is in Portinscale. It's a semi-detached house on a bit of a slope, so you get good views. You can see Grisedale Pike and Skiddaw from the front, and a bit of Bassenthwaite Lake if you look sideways.

It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. We gave it a proper renovation a few years back, so everything works and it's well equipped. It's a 4 Star place, which means it's comfortable and has what you need.

Portinscale itself is quiet. There's a pub, a restaurant, and a couple of tea rooms. You can walk into Keswick in about twenty minutes. That's where all the shops and cafes are.

For getting outside, you're right there. You can walk straight onto the fells from the door. Derwentwater is a five minute walk for a stroll or if you fancy hiring a boat. Whinlatter Forest is nearby for mountain biking. The osprey viewpoint at Dodd Wood is about three miles away.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. The garden is enclosed. Parking for two cars on the drive. WiFi, washing machine, cot, all the usual things. No pets, sorry.

If you're looking for information on the area, the Lake District National Park site is useful. The National Trust looks after a lot of the local land too.
