This is Harriet's Hideaway. It's one of six cottages here at Pine Vale, in Thornthwaite. They used to be a water mill a long time ago. It's a terraced cottage, so you've got neighbours either side.
The place sleeps four. Two double bedrooms and one bathroom. The rating is 3 Star. That's about right, it's comfortable and clean but not luxurious. The stairs are a bit steep. Just something to be aware of.
You're right next to Coombe Beck, the stream. There's a private bench out front where you can sit and listen to it. The view from here is good. You can see Skiddaw one way and the start of the Helvellyn range the other.
It's very quiet here. Keswick is about three miles east for shops and things. Braithwaite village is closer, about a mile walk. They've got a shop and a couple of pubs there. There's a little gallery and tea room about 100 yards from the cottage.
You're basically at the bottom of Whinlatter Forest. The trails start right from the door. Good for walking and mountain biking. For a bigger day out, Derwentwater and Borrowdale are nearby. Keswick has the usual stuff, a leisure centre, boats on the lake.
Facilities are all there. Wifi, TV, washing machine. Parking is on site. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. You can bring up to two dogs.
For planning, the Lake District National Park site is useful.
