This is Harriet's Hideaway. It's one of six cottages here at Pine Vale, near Thornthwaite. They used to be part of an old water mill.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean. Everything works.
The cottage is right by Coombe Beck, the stream. You can hear the water. The view from the front looks one way towards Skiddaw and the other towards the start of the Helvellyn range.
You're on the lower slopes of Whinlatter forest. So the walking and mountain biking starts pretty much from the door. There's a gallery and tea room about a minute's walk away. For a shop, pubs, or a restaurant, you need to go to Braithwaite village. That's about a mile.
Keswick is three miles east. That's where you'll find the supermarkets, most of the restaurants, and the cinema. It's a proper Lake District town.
Inside, there's a washing machine, TV, and Wi-Fi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. You can bring up to two dogs. We have a cot and highchair if you need them.
For planning days out, the Lake District National Park site is useful. The Forestry England page for Whinlatter has trail maps.
