Beckside is our cottage. It's in Thornthwaite, which is near Keswick in Cumbria. It's attached to our own house, but it's completely private. You have your own door and garden.
It sleeps three, and you can bring one dog. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom with a proper shower. It's got a 3 Star rating, which is about right. It's comfortable, clean and warm. It's not a show home.
The main thing is the view. You're looking straight at Helvellyn and Causey Pike from the front. The garden runs down to Coombe Beck. You can hear the water. There's a bridge right there that takes you into the forestry for walks. We get a lot of red squirrels here, and the occasional osprey flies over.
You're about two miles from Keswick. That's where the shops and pubs are, and the Theatre by the Lake. There's a bus stop about five minutes' walk away if you don't want to drive in.
Bassenthwaite Lake is a short drive for sailing or fishing. It's easy to get into the north-western fells from here, or you can drive down to Derwentwater. Lake District National Park and National Trust Lake District have good information for planning walks.
The cottage has a woodburning stove for chilly evenings, WiFi, a TV, and parking right outside. Bedding is included. There's bike storage if you need it.
