The Larches

The Larches is a cottage near Thornthwaite in Cumbria. It's detached and sits by itself in the woods on the edge of Whinlatter Forest. You'll see red squirrels.

It sleeps six, in four bedrooms. There are two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. The layout is upside down, so the main living room is upstairs. That room is long, about 27 feet, with big windows looking towards Skiddaw. There are some paintings by local artists on the walls.

The garden goes up the fellside. At the top there's a summer house with a deck, a table and chairs, and some lights. The view from there looks out over the Derwent marshes and the fells beyond. It's a good spot.

You can walk or cycle straight from the door into Whinlatter. It's about a ten minute drive to Bassenthwaite Lake if you want to go sailing. There's an art gallery with a coffee shop in Thornthwaite village. For a pub, a restaurant, or a shop, you'd go to Braithwaite next door, which is a couple of minutes in the car. Keswick is about four miles away for supermarkets and other things.

Facilities: there's a woodburning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and bicycle storage. A stairgate is there if you need it. We allow one dog.
