Osprey Cottage

Osprey Cottage is in Bassenthwaite village. It's a 17th century place we did up a few years ago. It sleeps four, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating.

You come in on the ground floor. The main room is open plan, kitchen, dining and living area. There's an open fire. The ceiling has the original oak beams. Upstairs, there's a modern bathroom and two bedrooms. One's a double with good storage and views. The other has full-sized bunk beds. The windows look out over the fields towards the fells.

The stairs are typical cottage stairs. They're a bit steep.

There's no garden with the cottage. You can see a nice garden from the back windows, but that belongs to the neighbour. Out the front, there's a wood right behind the property. You often see red squirrels. You can walk up through it and get a great view of Skiddaw.

There are two pubs within walking distance, about three quarters of a mile. Both do food. The nearest proper shops are in Keswick or Cockermouth, which are about eight miles away.

You're right in the Lake District National Park. Bassenthwaite Lake is just down the road. Keswick is on Derwentwater and has all the shops and boat trips. Cockermouth is a quieter market town, good for a wander. It's about a twenty minute drive to either.

For facilities, it's got the wood burner, a washing machine, WiFi and TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair if you need them. A stairgate is there too. You can bring up to two dogs.
