Garries Cottage is in Bassenthwaite, up on a quiet bit of hillside. It's attached to the main house, which is an old 17th century place. You get your own space though. There are ten acres of gardens and fields around you, so it's very quiet.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms, with one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place, so it's clean and comfortable but not luxury. The living area is all open plan. There's a stone fireplace with an open fire, which is nice when it's cold. The kitchen looks out over the back garden.
The setting is the main thing. You're up high, so you get a view right over Bassenthwaite Lake and the fells all around. We get amazing sunsets looking west. You'll see red squirrels and woodpeckers in the garden regularly.
You can walk straight from the door. There are easy meadow walks, or you can go right up Skiddaw if you're feeling fit. It feels properly rural, but Keswick and Cockermouth are only a short drive away for shops and cafes.
For facilities, you've got the open fire, WiFi, a TV, parking, and bike storage. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot if you need it. We allow up to two dogs.
The nearest pub is about a mile down in the village. For wider days out, the Lake District National Park site is useful, and the National Trust has loads of local places like Dodd Wood, which is just down the road.
