Garries Cottage
Garries Cottage is in Bassenthwaite, up on the higher ground above the village. It's attached to our house, which is a 17th century place. We've got about ten acres of garden and meadows around us, so it's quiet.
Sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's a 3 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and clean. Not fancy, but it does the job.
It's open plan downstairs. There's a fireplace with an open fire and the beams are original. The kitchen looks out over the back garden. We get a lot of wildlife. Red squirrels come by often, and woodpeckers.
The view from here is the main thing. You can see Bassenthwaite Lake from the cottage and garden, and all the fells around. The sunsets over to the west are really good.
You can walk straight from the door. There are easy tracks through the woods and meadows, or you can go right up Skiddaw if you want something harder. The lanes around here are quiet.
Keswick is about ten minutes by car. Cockermouth is about fifteen. The northern lakes like Buttermere and Crummock Water are within half an hour.
For facilities: there's the woodburning stove, a TV, wifi, a cot, and bedding and towels are included. Parking is right outside. We allow up to two well-behaved dogs. There's bike storage if you need it.
