Oak Lea is near Thornthwaite in Cumbria. It’s a semi-detached cottage in a hamlet called Seldom Seen. There are only two other houses. The road ends here and the Whinlatter forest starts.
The cottage sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one double and one twin. There’s one bathroom with a shower over the bath. It’s a 3 Star place. Clean and warm, not luxurious.
The living area is open plan with an open fire. There’s a TV. The kitchen has a breakfast bar. The old wash house outside is now a utility room with a washing machine and bike storage.
There’s a lawned garden with seating. A beck runs along the bottom of it. Parking for two cars.
You can bring one dog. Bedding and towels are included.
You’re right on the edge of Whinlatter forest. You can walk or bike straight onto the trails. The Whinlatter Visitor Centre is a short walk up the hill. Bassenthwaite Lake is about a 15 minute walk away.
Thornthwaite has a shop and a pub. Keswick is about a 10 minute drive. They’ve got all the shops, cafes, and a couple of cinemas. There’s a good bus service if you don’t want to drive.
For days out, you’re close to Derwentwater and Keswick. Buttermere and Crummock Water are within a 30 minute drive. The northern fells are right there.
