River Cottage
River Cottage is in Keswick, just off the main road into town. It's a stone cottage, one of the old ones. The garden's out the back, quiet and sunny.
It sleeps four, two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well looked after. Everything works. I've left some dressing gowns in the cupboard and there's usually a welcome basket with a few basics on the table when you arrive.
The stairs are steep, like they are in these old places. A stairgate is fitted if you need it.
You can walk to the centre in about five minutes. All the shops, pubs, and restaurants are there. There's a local pub about 500 yards away too.
For getting out, you're in a good spot. You can walk up to Latrigg from the house, or along the river to Friar's Crag on Derwentwater. The lake is about a ten minute walk. For a longer day, you're right on the edge of the Northern Fells.
You can drive to Borrowdale in ten minutes, or over the Whinlatter Pass into the woods. Bassenthwaite Lake is about fifteen minutes away. The coast at Allonby or St Bees is just under an hour if you fancy a change.
In the cottage there's a washing machine, a dishwasher, wifi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you're bringing a little one. There's parking for one car on the drive. No pets allowed, sorry.
