Field House Bothy is in Grange, in Borrowdale. It's a single-storey stone building, converted from an old farm outbuilding. It’s for two people.
The space is all open-plan. You walk in and everything's there: the kitchen area, a sitting area, and the bed. The main thing is the view. The big doors look straight down the valley towards Derwent Water and Cat Bells. You can sit with a cup of tea and just look at it.
It's got a 4 Star rating. It’s well set up – underfloor heating, double glazing, everything works. The bed is electric-assisted, which helps if you have mobility issues. The shower room is a walk-in wet room with a proper power shower and grab rails.
The whole place is wheelchair accessible. There’s a level path to the front door, the doors are wide, and there are no steps inside.
Outside, there’s a small patio area with a table and a BBQ. It’s yours to use. The setting is quiet, just fields and the crags behind.
There’s a pub about a quarter of a mile down the road in Grange. It serves food. For a shop, you’ll need to drive to Keswick, which is about four miles. Keswick has supermarkets, bakeries, the usual.
You’re right in the middle of the walks. A very flat, easy path goes from Keswick along the lake to Friar’s Crag. For something a bit higher, you can drive up to the car park for Latrigg and there’s a smooth path to the top. If you want to try a mobility scooter, you can hire a Tramper at Whinlatter Forest. They’ve got trails you can use it on.
Facilities: There’s parking right outside. It has WiFi, a TV, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
