1, The Barns is in Scales, Cumbria. It's a converted barn, sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating.
The conversion's been done well. There are exposed stone walls and oak beams. The ground floor is open plan, with the kitchen, dining table and living area all together. It's a good social space. There's a wood burner for the evenings.
Practical things: the kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. There's a walk-in pantry with extra bits. The entrance porch has a boot room with a heated drying cabinet for wet coats and boots. Outside, there's a garage you can use for bikes or kit. A tumble dryer is in there too. The garden is a semi-enclosed patio with seating, a barbecue and a firepit.
The stairs are fine, but they're the original barn stairs, so they're a bit steep.
You're in a hamlet near Threlkeld. There's a footpath from the door that goes across fields to the pub in Scales, about a twenty minute walk. Threlkeld village is about a mile and three quarters walk along the river, and has a couple of good pubs. Keswick is five miles away for shops and more places to eat.
The River Glenderamackin runs through the hamlet. You get red squirrels around here, they're often in the garden. Keswick Golf Club is right next door if you play.
For days out, Keswick has the usual things. Derwentwater is there for lake trips. You're well placed for walking. Skiddaw, Blencathra and Helvellyn are all within a few miles if you want a proper fell. For gentler walks, there are plenty of options.
Facilities wise: bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if needed, and a stairgate. WiFi, TV, parking on site. You can bring two dogs.
