This is 1, The Barns, in Scales, Cumbria. It's a converted barn. Sleeps four, two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after.
The conversion kept a lot of the old features. Exposed stone walls, oak beams, slate floors. There's a wood burner in the living room, which is open plan with the kitchen. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's a walk-in pantry with extra bits and pieces in there. Through the porch there's a boot room with a heated drying cabinet for wet coats and boots.
Outside, there's a semi-enclosed patio with seating, a barbecue and a firepit. The garage is handy for storing bikes or walking gear. There's a tumble dryer in there too.
You're right on the edge of the hamlet, so it's quiet. The River Glenderamackin runs past the bottom of the garden. You'll often see red squirrels around here. Keswick Golf Club is right next door if you play.
There's a pub in Scales, about three quarters of a mile away. You can walk across the fields in twenty minutes or drive a bit further on the road. Threlkeld village is about a mile and three quarters walk along the river path. They've got two good pubs for food.
Keswick is five miles away. That's where you'll find most of the shops, restaurants, and the Theatre by the Lake on Derwentwater. For something different, there's the Derwent Pencil Museum and the Puzzling Place.
You're in a good spot for walking. Blencathra and Skiddaw are right there. You can start walks from the door without having to drive. For wider planning, the Lake District National Park site is useful, and the National Trust looks after a lot of the local land and walks.
Facilities: all bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. WiFi. Parking on site. You can bring up to two dogs.
