Penfold

Penfold is in Dockray, a small village off the main road on the Ullswater side. It's a converted barn, stone built. Sleeps four, two bedrooms each with their own bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well looked after.

The cottage looks out onto the fells. You can walk straight from the door. Aira Force waterfall is about a twenty minute walk away through the woods. It's a good one.

The pub is about a hundred yards down the lane. They do food. The nearest shop is in Pooley Bridge, about four miles. There's parking for two cars on the gravel outside.

For the lake, Ullswater is a couple of miles down the road. You can get a steamer from Pooley Bridge or Glenridding. The steamer trip to Howtown is nice. Good walking from there too.

Inside, it's got a wood burning stove, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. WiFi works. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing a dog. You can bring one dog. It's all on the ground floor and the entrance is wheelchair accessible, but there's a small step inside from the hall into the living area.

If you're planning walks, the National Trust page for Aira Force has maps. For wider trip ideas, Visit Lake District is the official site.
