Barn End is in Watermillock, right up on the north side of Ullswater. It's an old stone-built house, sleeps seven across four bedrooms, but there's just the one bathroom.
The place feels solid. There's a woodburning stove that works well. The garden's a big one, about an acre, with good views down to the lake. The land's open around it so it feels private.
It's a 4 Star place, so it's in good order. There's a dishwasher, washing machine, wifi, and towels are provided. Parking is on site.
It's set up for people getting outdoors. There's a lockable shed for bikes, canoes, and that sort of thing.
You can walk straight from the door. Aira Force waterfall is a famous walk and it's close by. The Ullswater 'Steamers' aren't steam anymore but the boats still run from nearby Glenridding. You can get a boat to Howtown and walk back along the shore path.
A couple of pubs and hotels are within a mile for food.
Dalemain Mansion and its gardens are a short drive. Penrith is about ten miles away for supermarkets. Keswick is half an hour or so.
You can bring two dogs. There's a travel cot and a highchair if you need them.
