Stable Cottage is on Barton Hall Farm, just outside Pooley Bridge. It’s a proper working farm, so you’ll see sheep and hear the tractors. The cottage itself used to be an old stone farm building, so there are beams and slate floors. It sleeps two, in one bedroom. There’s one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating.
The main thing is the location. You’re out in the fields, very quiet, but it’s only a few minutes to walk down into Pooley Bridge village. The lake is right there. You can get the steamer from there up to Glenridding, which is a nice way to see it all.
The cottage has a wood burning stove, which is good for cooler evenings. There’s a small patio with a table and a barbecue, looking out over the farm. The kitchen is small but has what you need, including a washing machine. Bedding is included. You can bring up to two dogs. There’s parking right outside.
For walking, you can pick up the Ullswater Way from the village. The High Street range fells are very close. Helvellyn is about a half hour drive if you want a bigger day out. Penrith is ten minutes away by car for bigger shops. Keswick is about twenty-five minutes.
