Sparrow's Nest is a timber lodge in Glen Dowlin, Cumbria. It's detached, up a slope, with parking for two cars. It's peaceful up here, part of a small group of private lodges.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms: one kingsize with an en-suite shower, one double, and one with bunk beds. That bunk room has a trundle bed you can pull out if you need it, so it can fit three kids. There's also a travel cot. The main bathroom has a shower over the bath.
The living space is all open plan: kitchen, dining table, and sitting area with a wood burner. It's a decent space for a group. There's a TV with Freeview and a DVD player, and some board games. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine.
Outside there's a garden and a patio with a BBQ. At the back, you're looking over farmers' fields, and beyond that you get a view of the fells. You'll see sheep in the fields when they're out.
Location wise, it's about four miles from Ullswater. The M6 and A66 are five minutes away, so getting around is easy. You're on the edge of the Lake District to the west and the Yorkshire Dales are east, so you've got options.
A mile down the road in the village of Tirril there's a pub that does food. For a day out, the Lowther Estate is very close. It's got castle ruins, massive gardens, a cafe, and a big adventure playground. You can hire bikes there and use their walking trails.
Penrith and Keswick are both market towns within a 30 minute drive for shops and places to eat. From Pooley Bridge on Ullswater you can get the Ullswater Steamers boat. For walking information, the Lake District National Park site is useful.
The lodge has a 4 Star rating. Bedding and towels are included. It says pets are allowed, up to two.
