Sparrow's Nest is a timber lodge in Glen Dowlin. It's detached, on a small site with other private lodges. It's about four miles from Ullswater.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bedroom has a king-size bed and its own shower room. Another has bunk beds and a pull-out trundle bed, so it can sleep three kids if needed. There's a cot available too. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-equipped.
The main room is open plan. Kitchen, dining table, and sitting area with a wood burner. It's a good space for everyone to be together. There's a TV with Freeview and a DVD player, and some board games.
Outside, there's a garden and patio with a BBQ. You look out over farmer's fields at the back. Sometimes there are sheep. You can see the fells from there. Parking is on site for two cars.
The location is handy. You're just off the A66, so getting around is easy. Ullswater is close. You can get the steamer from Pooley Bridge over to Glenridding. Penrith and Keswick are both within a half hour drive for shops and places to eat.
The Lowther Estate is very near. They've got castle ruins, massive gardens, a big adventure playground, and bike hire. There's a decent pub serving food about a mile away in Tirril.
For wider planning, the Lake District National Park site has all the walking and route information. The National Trust looks after a lot of the local land and houses.
Facilities are pretty covered: WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
