Gill Barn
Gill Barn is in Butterwick, which is in the quieter bit of the Lakes near Penrith. It's a converted barn, so it feels solid. The kitchen is big and has a proper dining table, which is good if you're all trying to eat at the same time. The floors are oak, so they can be a bit noisy.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, which helps with the morning queue. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's been done up well, it's clean and everything works. It feels more modern than some places round here.
You're right out in the fields. It's very quiet. You can step out the door and straight onto footpaths. You don't need to get in the car to go for a walk. For a drive, Ullswater is about five miles. Pooley Bridge is there for boat trips. Haweswater is three miles away, and you can get up onto the fells like High Street from there.
Penrith is the nearest town for bigger shops. It's about ten, fifteen minutes by car. Keswick is maybe half an hour if you want to go that way.
For facilities, it's got a woodburner, dishwasher, washing machine, wifi. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you've got dogs. We take up to two pets. There's parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included, and we can provide a cot and highchair.
