Primrose Cottage is in Shap, which is a village right on the eastern edge of the Lake District. It's semi-detached, and we refurbished it last year.
It's a one bedroom place, sleeps two. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean, not luxury. You've got the garden to yourself, it's enclosed. The bathroom has a shower.
Shap itself has what you need. There's a shop and a few pubs about 200 yards away. One of them does food. The village also has an outdoor heated swimming pool, which is a bit unusual and quite nice in summer.
For getting out, you're in a good spot. You're between Penrith and Kendal. The Lake District National Park starts practically on your doorstep. Ullswater is about a 15 minute drive. Haweswater reservoir is up the road too, about eight miles, if you want a quieter walk. The path up there is where people go to try and spot the golden eagles.
You can easily get to the Yorkshire Dales from here as well. Or head north to Carlisle in under half an hour if you want a city day, to see the castle or use it as a base for Hadrian's Wall.
In the cottage there's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. There's parking. Bedding and towels are included. We allow one dog.
