Primrose Cottage is in Shap, which is a village just outside the eastern edge of the Lake District. It's semi-detached, one of a pair. We finished a big refurbishment on it in 2023, so everything inside is clean and fresh.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, which basically means it's comfortable and well-equipped, not luxurious. The stairs are mentioned in the notes because they're steep and a bit narrow. Just so you know.
You're about 200 yards from the village shop and a couple of pubs. The shop has the essentials. The pubs do food. Shap has an outdoor heated swimming pool that's open in the summer, which is a nice local thing.
Location is the main point. You're right between the M6 and the Lakes. Keswick, Penrith, and Carlisle are all about a 20 to 30 minute drive. Ullswater is close, maybe 15 minutes. Haweswater is up the road, about eight miles. That's a proper reservoir with walks and you might see birds of prey.
For walking, you're on the edge of the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales aren't far either. The Eden Valley is good for cycling. Hadrian's Wall and Carlisle are an easy drive if you fancy a bit of history.
Facilities: you've got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and an enclosed patio garden with a BBQ. There's bike storage if you bring them. Parking for one car right outside. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
