This is Riverside Cottage in Maulds Meaburn. It's a semi-detached house right next to the Lyvennet Beck, which is a small river. You can hear the water from the garden. The garden is enclosed and it's yours to use.
It sleeps six people in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. We had the kitchen completely done up a couple of years ago. Everything else is comfortable and clean. It's got a 4 Star rating.
There's a local pub a short walk away. The village is quiet. For shops, you'll need to drive to Appleby-in-Westmorland or Penrith. Both are about seven or eight miles. They've got supermarkets and butchers and the usual.
The location is good if you want to see different things without driving all day. You're on the eastern edge of the Lake District, so places like Ullswater are maybe 30 minutes away. The Yorkshire Dales are to the east, also about half an hour. Northumberland and the Scottish borders are within an hour if you fancy a longer day out.
If you walk, the Coast to Coast path and the Cumbria Cycleway go nearby. The river here is known for fishing.
For facilities, it's got most things. Parking for two cars on the drive. There's an electric vehicle charger. Washing machine. WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. We allow one well-behaved dog. The entrance is step-free, but the internal stairs are standard cottage stairs, so they turn and are a bit steeper than in a modern house.
