The Black Bull

The Black Bull is on Boroughgate, which is the old main street in Appleby. It's a 17th century stone building, so it's a proper old place, not a new one. It's got flagstone floors and beams. It sleeps nine people.

There are four bedrooms, and each one has its own bathroom. That's five bathrooms in total, which is quite handy with a group.

The building is listed because it's old, so you need to know about the stairs. They are steep in places. They're also narrow and some are spiral. That's just how it was built.

Outside, there's a small patio garden at the back with a table. You can park a car right outside the front door.

Location wise, you're right in the town. Shops, cafes and a few pubs are a minute's walk away. Appleby Castle is at the top of the street. The River Eden and St Lawrence's church are at the bottom.

The Pennine Way runs through this area. High Cup Nick and Dufton Pike are about a twenty minute drive from here, if you want a proper walk with a view.

The Lake District is less than half an hour by car. You can get to Penrith, Ullswater, or Keswick easily for a day out. Useful links if you're planning: Lake District National Park for walks and National Trail for the Pennine Way.

Inside, it's got what you'd expect for a holiday let: a wood burner, a dishwasher, washing machine, wifi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.

It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well equipped. It suits a big group or a family because of all the en-suites.
