The Black Bull
The Black Bull is on Boroughgate in Appleby. It's the main street and it's very old and nice to look at. The building itself is 17th century and grade II listed. It used to be the hotel for the pub next door.
It sleeps up to nine people. There are four bedrooms and each one has its own bathroom. That’s five bathrooms in total.
The place has a lot of original features. Exposed beams, flagged stone floors, old doorways. The stairs are uneven in places because it's old. The doorways are low. Just mind your head.
You can bring up to two dogs. There's on-site parking for two cars.
Out the front door, Appleby Castle is a few hundred yards up the road. St Lawrence's Church is down the other way, by the river. The town is a proper market town.
For walking, you're on the edge of the Lake District National Park, about 30 minutes drive to things like Ullswater. The Pennine Way goes through nearby Dufton, which has High Cup Nick. That’s a good day out if you like a proper hike.
Facilities: it's got a wood burning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. All the utilities are included in the price. There's a small patio area out the back.
It's rated 4 Star. It's comfortable and clean, with the quirks you'd expect from a building this old.
