Beck Cottage

This is Beck Cottage. It's in Colby, which is a small, quiet village in the Eden Valley. The cottage is right next to Banley Beck, which is a little stream that runs into the River Eden. You can hear it from the patio.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's graded 3 Star, which is correct. It's clean and comfortable, but not fancy. It's a proper old cottage. The ceilings are low in places, and the stairs are narrow and a bit steep. That's just how it is.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove in the living room. It works well. There's a washing machine, a TV, and parking for one car right outside. Bedding and towels are included. We have a cot and a highchair if you need them.

The garden is yours to use. There's a patio with a table and chairs. It's south-facing, so it gets the sun.

You can bring up to three dogs. There's an extra charge for that, mind.

The village itself is very quiet. The nearest shop and pub are about two miles away, in Appleby-in-Westmorland. Appleby's a proper market town. It's got what you need.

You're really well placed here for getting out. You're in the Eden Valley. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is on one side, and the Lake District National Park is on the other. Both are about a 20 to 30 minute drive to the main bits. You can be in Keswick or Penrith within half an hour. Carlisle and Durham are under an hour if you want a city.

If you like walking or cycling, you can start straight from the door. The river Eden path is good. For fishing, you'd need a permit from the Eden Rivers Trust.
