The cottage is right next to a pub, about fifteen yards away. They do food. There's a shop about half a mile away.
It's got flagstone floors and a wood burner for the colder months. There's a small garden out the back. The bathroom is modern and the kitchen is well equipped.
It's on a main street, so you get the usual street noise. The stairs are steep, like most old cottages. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
Appleby is a nice market town on the River Eden. You can walk to Jubilee Bridge to see the weir. In autumn, you can sometimes see salmon jumping there. The town has shops, cafes, and Appleby Castle is open for visits sometimes.
For train enthusiasts, Appleby is on the Settle to Carlisle railway line. Steam trains run in summer, and the Flying Scotsman comes through occasionally.
For days out, the Northern Lakes are within a half hour drive. Lake Ullswater is about twenty minutes away. The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is right on the doorstep. For walkers, the Eden Valley has good paths.
Facilities include a washing machine, TV, WiFi, and parking for one car. Bedding and towels are provided. A cot and highchair are available if needed.
