The Barracks is in Little Strickland, a small village near Shap. It's a semi-detached stone cottage, part of a pair. It's attached to our house, which is next door. It's Grade II listed and dates from the 1600s.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped. The ceilings are low and beamed in places. The stairs are steep, which is normal for a cottage this old.
The garden is enclosed and it's yours to use. You're also welcome to walk in our field. It's quiet and feels quite remote, but you're not far from things.
For a pub or a meal, you need to drive about two miles. The nearest shop is in Shap, about three miles away.
You're in a good spot for getting about. Haweswater and Ullswater are both about a fifteen minute drive. You can be in Penrith in twenty minutes or so, and things like the Lowther Castle adventure playground are about a half hour away. The M6 is close if you're heading north to the Scottish Borders or south towards the Yorkshire Dales.
Inside, there's a wood burner for the colder months. We leave some logs for you to start with. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is right outside.
You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed but it's old stone walling, so check for gaps if yours are small.
