The Old Mill

The Old Mill is on the edge of Great Strickland. It's a detached old watermill we've done up. It's warm and the rooms are a good size. There are beams, which means some of the doorways are low. Watch your head.

It sleeps six in four bedrooms, with two bathrooms. The rating is 5 Star. That means it's well equipped and finished to a good standard. You can bring two dogs.

The best bit is the terrace. It faces south over the river and gets the sun most of the day. Good for sitting out. There's a garden and parking for a couple of cars.

Inside, there's a wood burner, a washing machine, dishwasher, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included.

The village has two pubs you can walk to. Both do food. There's a Michelin-starred place a couple of miles away in Askham if you want something special. For shopping, Penrith is about ten minutes north. They've got supermarkets and a decent high street.

You're really here for the location though. The Lake District National Park starts about five minutes west. Lowther Castle is just up the road. Ullswater is about twenty minutes drive. You can get the steamer there, or go walking. Helvellyn is in that range if you're up for it.

The other way, east, you're into the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales National Park is within half an hour. There are quiet lanes for cycling right from the door.
