Haweswater Cottage

Haweswater Cottage is in Burnbanks. That's a small hamlet on the east side of the Lake District, next to Haweswater Reservoir. It's detached, quiet, and looks out onto fields.

It sleeps eight across three bedrooms, with two bathrooms. It's got a 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean, not a fancy place. The ground floor is all on one level and the doorways are wide, which is good for wheelchair access. There's a wood burning stove for chilly evenings.

Outside, there's a patio with a BBQ and a garden. Parking is right there. You can bring one well-behaved dog. The bedding is included.

You're right on the edge of the fells here. The roads are quieter than over in the central Lakes, so it's good for cycling. You get red squirrels around, and deer. Haweswater itself is a short walk away for walking. You can follow the shore or head up onto the hills.

Shap Abbey is very close. It's a ruin from the 15th century, run by English Heritage. Worth a look if you like history.

Kendal is about a 25 minute drive for bigger shops. Penrith is roughly half an hour. The M6 motorway is close if you need to get on it, but you don't hear it from here.

For more information on the area, the Lake District National Park site is useful.
