Lowther Cottage is a stone-built little house in the village of Lowther, within the Lake District National Park. It's part of a terraced row built for the castle estate workers a few centuries ago. It's a listed building, so it's full of old features, like low beams and stone walls. It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs.
It gets a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. The garden is a small, walled patio off the kitchen. Good for a morning coffee or an evening drink.
The village is quiet and overlooked by the castle. There's a pub and a restaurant within a few minutes' walk. The shop is a couple of miles away in Askham.
You're in a good spot for getting about. Penrith is four miles east for supermarkets and the mainline train station. The shores of Ullswater are about a fifteen-minute drive. Keswick and the northern lakes are easily reached. If you prefer a gentler landscape, the Eden Valley starts right on your doorstep.
The main attraction is the Lowther Estate itself. The castle ruins and the vast gardens are right there. You can walk straight into the grounds from the village. They hold events like the Lowther Show and the Kendal Calling music festival in the grounds.
Facilities: there's a woodburning stove, a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking on site. We can provide a cot. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
