Quarry Cottage
Quarry Cottage is a converted barn just outside Penrith. It's semi-detached, but you don't share any walls with the neighbours anymore. It's quiet.
It's a two-storey place that sleeps four. Downstairs there is a bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom, and a kitchen with a dining table. The living room is upstairs, which I know sounds odd. It's a very bright room with patio doors that open onto a balcony. The views from there are good. You can see right across the Eden Valley to the Pennines.
It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped. The entrance and ground floor are wheelchair accessible, which is good to know. There's parking right outside.
It's on the edge of the Lake District National Park. You can be at Ullswater in about 15 minutes. Pooley Bridge is a nice spot there. The Ullswater Steamers run from there. For walking, you've got everything from a stroll along the shore to Helvellyn if you want a proper hike.
Penrith town centre is about a 20-minute walk away. It's a market town. There are shops, pubs, and cafes. The local pub is closer, just a few minutes down the road.
If you want to explore further, you're close to the M6, so getting around is easy. The Scottish Borders are about an hour north. Hadrian's Wall is maybe 30 minutes east. Lowther Castle is about ten minutes south, it has big gardens and a playground. The Settle to Carlisle railway runs through the Eden Valley if you like trains.
The facilities are all there. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. It has a wood burner for cooler evenings. There's a patio area with some garden furniture.
