Cherry Cottage is in Little Salkeld, Cumbria. It's a detached stone cottage we built ourselves a few years ago. It sits in the Eden Valley, just outside the Lake District National Park boundary.
It sleeps nine people. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bedroom has its own ensuite shower. There's a main bathroom with a big tub as well. All the beds are king-size, except one room which has three singles. The mattresses are firm memory foam.
Downstairs is mostly open plan. The kitchen has an island with stools. There's a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The living area has a wood burner for colder nights. We've put in an 85-inch screen on the wall with a Nintendo Switch, which is popular for film nights. The WiFi is fast.
Outside, there's a large enclosed garden. It has a patio area with outdoor furniture and a hot tub. You can park two, maybe three cars on the private driveway.
We've also got a separate outbuilding. It's a boot room with a dog shower for cleaning muddy pets. There's a dartboard and an old games console in there too.
A few things to note. The cottage is on one level at the back, but the front door has a couple of steps. The flooring is stone or tile throughout, which is practical. We live nearby, so we'll meet you to hand over the keys and are around if you need anything during your stay. You can hire e-bikes from us directly if you want them.
Little Salkeld is a small village. There's a pub about a mile away. The nearest shop and a couple of places to eat are in Langwathby, which is two miles away. Langwathby train station is on the famous Settle to Carlisle line.
From the cottage door, you can walk to Long Meg stone circle. It's one of the largest in the north. Lacy's Caves, which are man-made chambers in a cliff by the river, are also on a good walking route from here.
Within a half hour drive, you're in the northern Lake District. Ullswater and Penrith are about twenty minutes. Keswick and the northern fells are roughly thirty minutes. For local days out, there's an outdoor pool in Hunsonby village and a playground with a zip wire in Winskill.
Facilities wise: all bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair. The garden is enclosed. We accept up to two dogs. The property has underfloor heating and is designed to be energy efficient.
