Castlegate is a modern terraced house in Penrith. It was all redone in 2020, so everything is new. It sleeps six, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. That was the main thing we wanted, an extra bathroom.
It's on the edge of town. You're a couple of minutes from the M6 by car, which is handy for getting about. The local pub is right across the road. They do good food.
Ullswater is about ten minutes' drive. You can get a boat trip on the lake from there, or hire a canoe. Keswick is maybe twenty minutes away, over the hills. It's got all the shops and cafes you'd need, and you can walk around Derwentwater.
The house has a small patio garden out the back with a barbecue. Inside, it's all open plan downstairs. There's a proper kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing machine. We've put in a cot and a highchair. The WiFi works fine. It's got a 4 Star rating.
For a day out, the National Trust has a lot of walks nearby. The Settle to Carlisle railway runs through the Eden Valley if you like trains. For wider trip planning, the official Lake District site is useful.
