Howegrain Lodge is in Knotts, up the Martindale valley at the south end of Ullswater. It's a single-storey, detached lodge. It feels quite tucked away up there, very quiet. You look out over fields and fells.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom with a shower. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean. It's all on the ground floor and the doors are wide, so it's suitable if you have mobility issues or use a wheelchair.
You can walk straight out the door onto the fells. For the lake, Ullswater is a short drive down the valley. Glenridding is there, where you can get the steamer boats up to Pooley Bridge or down to Howtown. Pooley Bridge has a few pubs and shops.
The nearest pub is about a mile and a half away. The nearest proper shop is nearly four miles, in Pooley Bridge, so you'll want to come with supplies.
For a bigger day out, Keswick is about a half hour's drive. Penrith is roughly the same.
Facilities: it's got a woodburning stove, which is nice in the evening. There's an enclosed garden, a washing machine, bedding and towels are included. No pets.
