Sharrow View

Sharrow View is in Wreay, near Ullswater. It's part of an old hunting lodge that's been converted. You get your own detached bit. There are shared gardens with benches, and the view looks down the valley towards the lake.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms. One's got a kingsize bed and you can see the lake from it. The other is a bunk room. There's one shower room, which has underfloor heating. Everything's on the ground floor, which is handy. The main room is open plan, with the kitchen at one end. It's a bright space with a big window.

The kitchen has everything you need. There's a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. WiFi works fine. For parking, you just pull up outside your door.

The local pub is about half a mile away. They do food. The nearest shop is in Pooley Bridge, about seven minutes by car. Pooley Bridge is also where you can get the steamer boat up and down Ullswater. You can walk to the lake from here, down through the fields.

For walking, you're right at the foot of the fells. You can get onto Barton Fell easily from the back. Helvellyn and Striding Edge are about a twenty-minute drive to the start of the serious paths. Keswick is roughly twenty-five minutes, Penrith about twenty. Both have supermarkets and the usual stuff.

It's a 4 Star place. That means it's well kept and comfortable. It's not fussy, but it's got what you need. No pets, I'm afraid.

If you're planning walks or days out, these sites are useful: Lake District National Park and National Trust Ullswater.
