Cheery Nook is in Matterdale End. It's a converted stone barn, Grade II listed. We're up a lane, in a hamlet. The views over the fells are nice.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, three bathrooms, which is handy for a group. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's well-equipped.
The layout is a bit different. All the bedrooms and the kitchen are on the ground floor. The living room is upstairs. That's where you get the best views, and there's a wood burner in there. The stairs are fine, just a typical cottage staircase.
The kitchen has slate worktops and an island. Everything you'd need is in there. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. We allow two. There's parking right outside.
You're about three miles from Ullswater. You can be at the lake in ten minutes. Keswick is a drive, maybe twenty-five minutes. Good for shops and cafes.
From here, you're well placed for the northern Lakes. Helvellyn is nearby if you're a walker. For a gentler day, Aira Force waterfall is a short drive and looked after by the National Trust. Penrith is about fifteen minutes the other way, off the M6.
Facilities: it's all included. Wifi, bedding, towels. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, cot and highchair. We've done the basics so you don't have to think about it.
