Wallthwaite Cottage
Wallthwaite Cottage is in Scales, just outside Keswick. It’s a standalone stone cottage with views out over the fields. You can see Blencathra from the front.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating. We renovated the whole place in 2022, so things like the heating and the bathrooms work properly now. It’s comfortable, but it’s still an old cottage, so mind your head on some of the beams.
There’s a wood burner for winter evenings. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you’re bringing dogs. We’re on a working farm, so you’ll see sheep in the fields around you.
You can walk straight out from the door onto footpaths. The quiet lanes around here are good for cycling. Keswick is about ten minutes’ drive away. They’ve got the usual shops, pubs, and a leisure centre. Derwentwater is just past it, where you can get the launch boat.
Ullswater is maybe 15-20 minutes south. The A66 is close by, so you can get to Penrith or over to the west coast lakes fairly easily.
For facilities, we’ve included the main things: WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are provided. There’s parking right outside. The entrance is level and wheelchair accessible, but the downstairs toilet isn’t adapted, so do check the photos if that’s important.
