Danika East

Danika East is a single-storey cottage on a sheep and beef farm in Scales. It’s one of ten holiday places here, so it’s not remote, but you do get your own space. The main window looks straight out at Blencathra, which is a proper mountain. The view is the main thing.

It’s for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom with a shower. It’s got a 3 Star rating, so it's clean and comfortable but not luxurious. The bed is made up for you.

You’re on the lower slopes, so the land around is farm track and field. It’s a working farm, so you’ll see sheep and hear farm vehicles sometimes. The parking is right outside the door.

There’s a pub about three quarters of a mile away in the village of Threlkeld. Another good pub, the Scales Inn, is a mile away in Scales. Keswick is five miles drive. That’s where the supermarkets and most of the restaurants are. The Theatre by the Lake is there, and Derwentwater is right next to it.

For walking, you’re basically at the foot of Blencathra. You can start climbs from here. Keswick is a hub for other walks and for hiring bikes. If you drive, you can get to the top of Whinlatter Pass in about twenty minutes, or to Ullswater in maybe half an hour.

The cottage has Wi-Fi and a TV. There's heating and the electricity is included. You can bring up to two dogs. They need to be kept on a lead outside because of the livestock.

If you’re planning walks or want more information on the area, the Lake District National Park site is useful. For local history and places like Wordsworth House, there's National Trust Lake District.
