The Rockery

The Rockery is in Shap, Cumbria. It's a terraced house, sleeps ten people max. There are five bedrooms and three bathrooms. We had it all redone last year. There's a water feature out the front, which is new. The garden is enclosed, so it's safe for dogs or kids.

It's got a three star rating. That means it's comfortable and clean, with everything you need, but it's not a show home. It's a family house.

You're right on the eastern edge of the Lake District here. It's quieter than being right in the middle of it all. Keswick, Penrith and Carlisle are each about twenty to thirty minutes drive, depending on traffic. Ullswater is the closest of the big lakes.

The village has the basics. A couple of shops, a few pubs serving food. There's a public outdoor swimming pool that's heated in the summer, and some tennis courts. For a bigger shop, you'd go to Penrith.

For walking, you've got the Haweswater reservoir area about fifteen minutes away. It's good for a proper hike. The Lake District National Park is right on your doorstep. If you fancy a day out, the Yorkshire Dales are also within reach, maybe forty-five minutes. Hadrian's Wall and Carlisle are to the north, about half an hour.

Inside, there's a wood burner for cooler evenings. We've put in a dishwasher and there's a washing machine. WiFi works fine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking for a couple of cars on the drive.

We take up to two well-behaved dogs. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. If your group is bigger, the cottage next door can be booked as well.
