The location is handy. You're right on the edge of the Lake District National Park, about eight miles from Haweswater. Ullswater is close by. You can drive into the Lakes, or the other way into the Yorkshire Dales, both within half an hour. Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall are about the same distance.
